Who We Are

Statement of Purpose - Why does Camp Chetek exist?

Camp Chetek’s purpose, as a fundamental Baptist ministry, is to glorify God by using the controlled environment of Christian camping to help churches of like faith and practice fulfill the great commission to evangelize the lost and make disciples of those who believe. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. I Corinthians 10:31. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20.

Philosophy of Ministry - What are we trying to accomplish?

Biblical philosophy defines direction, unites the staff, establishes priorities, and provides a basis for evaluation. We view Christian camping as a Christ-centered program of small group living in a controlled out-of-doors environment where godly staff members model Biblical Christianity to campers in real life situations and guide them to develop recreational, educational and social skills while being taught Biblical principles and being challenged to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are trying to help every person to whom we minister take their next spiritual step by:

A. Providing instruction, exhortation, and encouragement through Biblical preaching and teaching, and Godly counsel from the Word of God. Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. (II Timothy 4:2)

B. Providing an environment in which the staff and facilities project an accurate opinion of the character of God. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

C. Providing a well planned program of activities that are physically refreshing, safe, and complimentary to the spiritual purpose of the ministry. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (I Corinthians 10:31)

D. Having a staff that is growing spiritually while they minister to others. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (II Peter 3:17-18)

Camp Chetek’s ministry is characterized by an intense concentration of preaching, prayer and personal confrontation helping campers making life changing decisions.
